Lisa's Last Dance

She said yes, she’d dance with him
The evening’s very last dance
She hardly knew him, truth be told
The friend of a friend she’d met by chance

She placed her arms upon his shoulders
Her finger caressed the back of his neck
She felt a light touch draw her closer
A firm hand laid upon her back

She pressed her body closer still
So they were dancing cheek to cheek
She rested her head and shut her eyes
A trembling bird, battered and weak

She was dreaming

For in reality her heart was dead
Her brother, her playmate, her twin soul
The true presence upon which she fed
Had faded into the night so cold

Never more would they laugh and play
Her life had died with him, - over!
She had no more gifts but for the grave
She pressed the guy she barely knew – closer

Together, their bodies swayed softly,
His strong neck she stroked, tenderly
Warm hands caressed gently
They danced in perfect harmony

She was yearning

To burn herself on lust’s grim pyre
To throw herself on death’s barbed wire
To surrender to fate’s foul blow
To lie down and die in the winter snow.
